History of Herbal Baths. One of my favorite ways to use herbs is in my salt baths – they’re such a great way to reset and recharge.

I take herbal baths at least once a month – tailoring my herb selection with my intentions and the needs of my mind & body. It’s a very simple and accessible method of relaxation. An hour of solitude, submerged in water, muscles loosened from the Epsom salt, with flower petals floating around – a moment of heaven. Herbal baths are a great way to reset and recharge.

Herbal baths date back to about 1500 BCE in Egypt, done mainly for hygienic, medicinal & spiritual purposes. Queen Cleopatra for instance, was known for bathing in milk & rose petals.

Hippocrates, known as the Father of Medicine, learned about the healing properties of aromatic baths from the ancient Egyptians. He subsequently developed teachings about using water as a form of treatment, which he called hydrotherapy (water cure). Medicinal bathing is also called thalassotherapy.
